I may have mentioned recently that I had a story published in the most recent issue of The Cartoon Picayune. That story focuses on the “Radium Girls” of Ottawa, Illinois. These were women, mostly teenagers, who worked painting radium onto clock-faces in a factory to make them glow in the dark. The factory did not advise the girls to take safety precautions while handling the radium, and in fact encouraged them to put it in their mouths. Here’s a little preview of my nine page story about these women:
You can find the full story in the fifth issue of The Cartoon Picayune, which is themed “Hard Work.” In that issue, you’ll also find work by Andy Warner, editor Josh Kramer, Erik Thurman, and a lovely cover by Pat Barrett. Check it out, won’t you?
